Eastern Sunz New Single Shines with Songwriting Award Nomination
For 3/27/20 Release:
PORTLAND, Ore., February 25, 2020 – The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) has just announced their annual list of nominations which includes the forthcoming single “Not Enough” by Portland based hip hop duo Eastern Sunz. The song will be released on Friday, March 27 and will serve as the second single to their upcoming album due out in Spring.
Eastern Sunz were selected as nominees for the “R&B and Hip Hop” category out of over 18,000 entries. ISC offers them the unique opportunity to have their music heard by the decision-makers in the music industry, including iconic celebrity artists and high-profile executives. This year’s judges include Coldplay, Tom Waits, and more.
The somber, melodic production by SmokeM2D6 (K Records/Old Dominion) lends itself to cathartic lyricism from rappers Courage and TravisT. “'Not Enough' is a song about coming to terms with your own imperfections.” explains Aaron Harris (stage name Courage). “A lot of our music focuses on political and social issues, but on this one we stepped outside of our comfort zone with a bit honest introspection and self criticism.” adds Travis Taylor (stage name TravisT).
”Not Enough” features Rahim Thornhill on guitar and vocals, as well as long time Sunz collaborator Poeina singing on the chorus. It will be streaming on all digital music platforms including Spotify and Apple Music starting Friday, March 27. ISC winners will be announced once the judging process is completed in April.

Lyrics
TravisT
a frozen ocean with snow on the beach
tongue numb, lips weak, slowing my speech
betting on a dead horse so of course it was beat
then hung it's shoe above my door as if it's lucky to keep
when they ask me what I'm fighting for, I'd like to think it's freedom
but when you're barely breathing, fighting for air is all you believe in
and I'm feeling like a waste of space when I;m face to face
with man in the mirror telling me to change the pace
stopped to smell the roses in the middle of a meadow
picked a petal that was yellow with these little white speckles
now love me or love me not, just want it settled
so why am I raising hell up just to tell the devil hello?
cleaning up my mess and insisting that our mess is greater
I'd beg to differ I've just never been the best debater
been told I take the easy way out, so I'll catch you later
you take the stairs, I'll take the escalator
Chorus
We can walk across the world til the end of time
searching for a place to ease our mind
a little bit of luck can build us up
but it's still not enough to make us feel alright
and we can dance til the end of the night
hoping to reveal what's real inside
a little bit of love can build us up
but it's still not enough to make us feel alive
Courage
steeped with emotion but devoid of worthy sentiments
fold up the misery to origami sentences
while love slipping through my fingers in the present tense
I killed all hope and left no evidence
chalk it up to negligence, done with elegance, just a broken poem
building up these castles made of sand til our fate is sown
the last shooting star’s faded, light up the night and turn to dust
the gravity could find us all jaded
know I’ve conflated what I came to do
but I’ll deliver disappointment right on schedule
somehow I got a knack for knowing how this song ends
an open book, redacted comments, hazy contents amount to nonsense
my moral compass point the wrong direction
immune to introspection, if I was honest it’s a poor investment
counting days until we’re standing at the intersection
a fragile blessing til you get to stepping
TravisT
New evening now I'm dreaming of the cheaper thrills
that got me waking up reaching for the sleeping pills
when things get ill and the fires cold as ice
I'm too blinded by the light to ever take my own advice
opened eyes wide to see the scenery is phony
defeated all my enemies and now I'm lonely
a real zombie in the fields of zeal revealed calmly
at least that's how it feels when the heat is on me
wasting away waiting on open invitation
to unzip this skin and pull the plug on the simulation
stimulation comes a dime a dozen if you're patient
a penny for your thoughts, plus inflation
looking back can it be that it was all so simple?
in the end look at our skin these tattoos are defense wounds
been through it all I'm sick of talking about the weather
let's blow this popsicle stand and decompose together
