Portland Hip Hop Duo Eastern Sunz Take it Back to the Very Old School in New Music Video “Like This”

For Immediate Release

PORTLAND, Ore., December 16, 2019 – The award-winning Portland based hip hop duo Eastern Sunz are set to release their new music video “Like This” on Friday, February 21, which will serve as the lead single to their upcoming album due out in Spring 2020.

The video follows rappers TravisT and Courage as they don early 1900's attire and interact in contrast with the modern world. The fish out of water story is a familiar one for Eastern Sunz. “As a hip hop group with a throwback sound that typically tackles social, political, and environmental issues, we often feel like we don't always fit in with the modern mainstream perception of rap music. We decided to just have some fun with this one and embrace the role of the black sheep.” says Travis Taylor (stage name TravisT). “We see the song as an anthem for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider.” adds Aaron Harris (stage name Courage).

“Like This” was produced by Smoke M2D6, who recently had his music appear in a Super Bowl commercial and the song features veteran Portland rapper Vursatyl, fresh off of a collaboration with Dame D.O.L.L.A. (aka NBA All-Star Damian Lillard). The video was directed by Merit Award recipient and Portland Short Fest winner Ian Stout in what marks his fourth collaboration with Eastern Sunz.

The video will be available on YouTube and the single will be streaming on all digital music platforms including Spotify and Apple Music starting Friday, February 21. To celebrate the video release, Eastern Sunz will be performing at Atlantis Lounge (3552 N Mississippi Ave, Portland, OR 97217) on Saturday, February 22 at 9:00 PM (21+ $5). In addition, a special early premiere screening will be held at Beulahland (118 NE 28th Ave, Portland, OR 97232) as part of the longest running hip hop weekly event in Portland, Wicked Wednesdays, on February 19 at 10:00 PM (21+ Free).

Lyrics

TRAVIST

outspoken outcast, wondering how fast
I gotta run to shake the shadow that the cloud cast
sunshine to the rain, how long can a drought last?
making a name for myself sometimes I think and dream about that
travelin overseas and expanding our our followin
I don't eat MCs no more, I'm wack flow intolerant
lot on my plate, no time to waste on whats hopeless
in case you haven't noticed it's the way that I stay focused
givin the people a piece of my mind, a piece of the pie and a reason to buy
my recent release at a reasonable price, breeze in the sky, a reason to fly
freezin the time and reachin to shine a beacon of light deep in the night
speak in the mic and weaken the tide, we can divide in the blink of an eye
come into the spot with the intent to get busy
slice of life shit, but the pie can get gritty
vibrant by design, stylish by committee
Sunz stay on the rise like rent in the city

we break it down it down like, we break it down like, we break it down like, like this
we break it down it down like, we break it down like, we break it down like, like this

COURAGE

Courage be that black sheep, puffin weed on rural backstreets
with custom glass piece, fan crafted, verbal athlete
y’all five minutes in this game can take a back seat
still running circles round these rappers like a track meet
tenacious son, you know I can’t sleep, aspiring
firing, on every cylinder while cats retiring
shit, I’m feeling great, Yo T, let’s shoot for 10
since 1998, stabbing Donald with my pen
we make it sound like a symphony of revolutionary
visionary compromise your military
the message carry like a wave across the planet
tactics underhanded, in vein the seed already planted
we underground, echoing through ancient catacombs
perfect the craft via Smokavich and microphone
one chance and going for broke, so what you rep for
Courage cutting records with my heroes and my mentors.

we make it sound like, we make it sound like, we make it sound like, like this
we make it sound like, we make it sound like, we make it sound like, like this

VURSATYL

on my W E B Dubois so you clowns c-class
part superfly, part Richard Roundtree's Shaft
we had to redesign those medieval times
if we need a king for sports that's what Portland should crown me ass
the Jungle Book's last chapter
the Kunta Kinte colonizers couldn't capture
from revelations on the rapture El Haz Shabazz “axe factor” facts!
Kint T'challa's billion dollar black panther
Vurs carved a new bar level harder than Harvard U
your Marmaduke bark couldn't do battle at Waterloo
when I wish you well you'll feel the wind gusts of genie blunts
in my prime like I rhyme with gold graffiti fronts
though I don't Jack Daniels or swig a fifth of Henny
I pack ammo warheads or tails flip a penny
posers in the peanut gallery google me to see if I get biz... like this

it's going down like, it's going down like, it's going down like, like this
it's going down like, it's going down like, it's going down like, like this
